This 30-question A2 test practises the Spanish imperfect (pretérito imperfecto). It covers regular and irregular forms and the main uses of the tense: habits, descriptions, age and time, and background actions. It is for learners and teachers who want to check these points before moving on to the imperfect–preterite contrast in more depth.

Part 1 checks forms, Part 2 checks meaning and use, and Part 3 puts both into a short narrative text. Distractors target typical A2 errors: invented forms such as *vivaba or *eraba, missing or misplaced accents (*llegábais), using the present in a past context, and using the preterite for descriptions, age or time. As a follow-up, ask students to write five sentences about their own childhood using the imperfect, then add one interrupting event in the preterite.
