This C1 French grammar test covers logical connectors in depth: cause, consequence, purpose, concession, opposition and condition, together with the moods they require. It is for advanced learners and teachers who want to check precise, natural use of connectors in sentences and in an argumentative text.
Parts 1 and 2 test individual connectors and the mood they require. Part 3 tests connectors in an extended argumentative text. The test targets common C1 errors: subjunctive vs indicative after connectors (bien que, étant donné que, même si, de sorte que), the incorrect 'malgré que', 'au cas où' + conditional, quoi que vs quoique, and the use of 'pour autant' in negative sentences. As a follow-up, ask learners to write a short argumentative paragraph using at least six connectors from different logical categories.
