Notes for teachers
Use the test without dictionaries. As a rough guide, 40 or more correct answers suggest a learner is secure at B1, and 30–39 suggest they are working towards it. The test targets typical B1 errors: verb position in subordinate clauses, haben/sein in the Perfekt, dative vs. accusative after two-way prepositions, wenn vs. als, and wo-/da-compounds. Use wrong answers in Parts 2 and 3 to plan targeted revision, for example of relative pronouns or Konjunktiv II.
