C1 OriginalLevel test
PDFTests Originals
This C1 grammar test checks how well you control the Spanish subjunctive in three demanding areas: concessive clauses (aunque, por más que, aun cuando, si bien), temporal clauses (cuando, antes de que, en cuanto, hasta que) and relative clauses with known, unknown or non-existent antecedents. It is for advanced learners and teachers who want to diagnose the mood-choice errors that persist at higher levels. The final part checks the same structures in a short connected text.

Use this test after teaching mood choice in subordinate clauses, or as a C1 diagnostic. It targets typical advanced errors: the future after cuando or mientras, the indicative after antes de que, overusing the subjunctive for past habitual actions or known antecedents, and the subjunctive after si bien. Wrong-tense distractors (llegue vs llegara) practise the sequence of tenses. As follow-up, ask students to rewrite the sentences with the opposite mood and explain how the meaning changes.
