Notes for teachers
Give students about 40 minutes, or set each section on its own as a 12–15 minute warm-up. Several distractors repeat words from the text but distort the meaning. This targets learners who match words instead of understanding ideas, especially in the inference questions (4, 13, 19, 20). As follow-up, ask students to explain the idioms 'rendre l'âme', 'faute de relève' and 'ne pas pouvoir s'empêcher de', or to write their own ending to the story.
