This B2 French grammar test checks whether you can choose correctly between the subjunctive and the indicative. It covers verbs of will, emotion, doubt and certainty, key conjunctions, negative and interrogative opinion verbs, and relative clauses. It suits upper-intermediate learners preparing for DELF B2 and teachers who need a ready-made review or assessment.
Part 1 covers the main triggers, Part 2 covers conjunctions, and Part 3 covers nuanced cases and error spotting. Each question has exactly one standard-French answer. The test targets common B2 errors: using the subjunctive after 'après que', 'espérer' or 'il est probable que'; using the indicative after 'bien que' or 'je ne pense pas que'; and using 'que + subjunctive' when both clauses have the same subject. As follow-up, ask students to rewrite Part 3 sentences with the opposite trigger (for example, 'je pense que' becoming 'je ne pense pas que') and justify the mood change.
