Notes for teachers

Use Part 1 to check present-tense forms, especially the irregular singular (ich kann, du musst, er will) and the missing -t in the 3rd person singular. Part 2 targets meaning, including the common confusion between 'muss nicht' (not necessary) and 'darf nicht' (not allowed). Part 3 practises verb position: the modal verb is in position 2 or 1, and the infinitive goes to the end. As a follow-up, ask students to write five sentences about their week using a different modal verb in each.
