Part 1: An email from a friend

Read Lena's email to Tom. Then answer questions 1–8.

Hallo Tom,

Lena

How to use this test

  1. Download the PDF and print it, or take the test online below.
  2. Answer every question without a dictionary or time pressure.
  3. Check your answers and note the topics you need to review.

Notes for teachers

Give students about 20 minutes and ask them to read the whole text before answering. The questions target common A1 problems: mixing up time expressions (seit zwei Wochen vs. Jahren), misreading opening times, and overlooking negatives such as geschlossen and nicht erlaubt. As a follow-up, students can write a short reply to Lena's email or design a notice with opening times for their school or a local shop.
