C2 German word formation worksheet: derive nouns and adjectives, use nominal style, fix word-formation errors and match compounds. Printable, with answers.
Start with Exercise 1 as a warm-up and ask learners to name the suffix rule behind each answer. Typical mistakes include choosing the wrong suffix (-heit vs -keit vs -ung), confusing participles with -end adjectives (unbefriedigt vs unbefriedigend) and getting gender wrong after nominalisation (aus reinem Eigennutz). As a follow-up, give learners a short informal text and have them rewrite it in formal nominal style, then compare versions in pairs.
