C2 French word formation worksheet: nominalisation, prefixes, suffixes and tricky derived words in context, with answers for automatic checking.
Start with Exercise 1 to review nominalisation, a key feature of formal written French, before moving on to the less predictable derivations. Learners often invent nouns with the wrong suffix (*appauvrement, *rectifiement) or confuse near-pairs such as désaffection/désaffectation and arbitraire/arbitral, so discuss these explicitly. As a follow-up, ask students to rewrite a short news article in a more nominal, formal style using the vocabulary from the worksheet.
