Notes for teachers

Review the basic rule first: most nouns ending in -o are masculine and most ending in -a are feminine. Then highlight exceptions such as el día, el mapa, el problema, la mano and la foto. Typical mistakes are using 'uno' before a noun instead of 'un' and forgetting to change the article, verb and adjective in the plural. As a follow-up, ask learners to label ten objects in the classroom with the correct article.
