Notes for teachers

Start with a quick review of the regular -te- endings and common irregular stems before Exercise 1. Typical mistakes include adding -te to irregular verbs (gehte, bringte), forgetting the endings for du/ihr (kamst, wartetet), and not sending the separable prefix to the end (rief ... an). As a follow-up, ask learners to write a short story about a memorable day using at least ten different verbs in the Präteritum.
