Printable B1 French worksheet on the present subjunctive: regular and irregular forms, triggers, negatives and questions, with answers.
Start by reviewing the formation rule (ils-form stem of the present + -e, -es, -e, -ions, -iez, -ent) before Exercises 1 and 2, then use Exercises 3 to 6 for meaning and use. Typical mistakes include using the subjunctive after affirmative penser/croire/être sûr, forgetting the irregular forms (aille, fasse, puisse, sache), and using que + subjunctive when both subjects are the same instead of an infinitive. As a follow-up, ask pairs to write five pieces of advice for a new student starting with 'Il faut que…' or 'Il est important que…'.
