This C1 worksheet practises past participle agreement in French, including the subtle cases that trip up even advanced learners: preceding direct objects, pronominal verbs, impersonal verbs, 'en', and participles followed by an infinitive. It suits advanced students preparing for DALF C1 or anyone polishing their written French.

C1 French worksheet on past participle agreement: être, avoir with a preceding object, pronominal verbs, en and infinitives. Answers included.
Start with Exercise 1 as a diagnostic, then ask students to state the rule behind each answer before moving on. The most common mistakes are agreeing with an indirect object in pronominal verbs (se parler, se succéder, se rendre compte), agreeing with 'en', and agreeing 'fait' before an infinitive. As a follow-up, ask students to write a short paragraph about a past trip using at least five relative clauses with 'que' and two pronominal verbs, then swap and correct each other's agreements.
