C1 German worksheet: practise passive alternatives with sich lassen, -bar adjectives and sein + zu, including negatives and questions.
Start by showing that all three structures replace a passive with können or müssen: sich lassen and -bar express possibility, while sein + zu can express either possibility or necessity, depending on context. Typical mistakes are adding zu after sich lassen, forgetting subject–verb agreement with plural subjects, and misplacing zu in separable verbs (abzugeben, not zu abgeben). As a follow-up, have learners rewrite a short set of house rules or instructions in a formal style using sein + zu and sich lassen.
