B2 French worksheet on subjunctive vs indicative: verbs of opinion, emotion, doubt, conjunctions, negatives and questions. Printable with answers.
Start by eliciting the main triggers: will, emotion, doubt and possibility take the subjunctive, while certainty, probability and espérer take the indicative. Common mistakes include using the subjunctive after espérer and après que, and forgetting the subjunctive after negative penser or croire. Exercises 1–2 work well in pairs, and Exercise 4 can be corrected as a class discussion. As a follow-up, ask learners to write five opinions about a topic using je pense que and je ne pense pas que.
