Notes for teachers

Start by using classroom objects (a pen, a bag, a desk) to show in, on, under and next to. Then do Exercises 1–2 together. Learners often forget 'to' after 'next' ('next the door'), add 'of' ('next to of'), or use 'in' for walls ('in the wall'). They also use 'on' with cities ('on Paris'). As a follow-up, learners draw a simple room. In pairs, they ask and answer 'Where is the…?' and 'Is the… under the…?' questions.
