Complete each sentence with por or para.

Match each sentence with the use of por or para it shows. There are two extra options.

Complete the sentences with an expression from the box. There are two extra expressions.

Exercise 4: Find the mistake

Each sentence has one mistake with por or para. Write the correct sentence.

Example: Viajo a Perú por visitar a mi tía. → Viajo a Perú para visitar a mi tía.

Exercise 5: Rewrite the sentences

Rewrite each sentence using the word in brackets so that the meaning stays the same.

Example: Me quedé en casa a causa del calor. (por) → Me quedé en casa por el calor.

Notes for teachers

Start with Exercise 2 as a whole-class discussion so learners name each use before doing the gap-fills. A typical mistake is using para after gracias, or por instead of para to express purpose before an infinitive (estudio por aprobar). Also contrast ¿Por qué? (reason) with ¿Para qué? (purpose). As a follow-up, ask pairs to write five true sentences about their plans using para and five about past events using por.
