About this test

Free printable A1 French worksheet on asking questions: question words, quel/quelle, est-ce que, inversion and intonation, with answers.

Notes for teachers

Start by showing the same question three ways: intonation (Tu parles anglais ?), est-ce que (Est-ce que tu parles anglais ?) and inversion (Parles-tu anglais ?). Common mistakes include not changing que to qu' before a vowel, forgetting the hyphen and -t- in inversion (Aime-t-il ?), and getting the gender of quel wrong. As a follow-up, learners can use the questions from Exercise 5 to interview a partner and then report back to the class.
